Description: Dark blue mushrooms that have a translucent cover with a strong reflective effect. When exposed to a small amount of light on its surface, it creates the illusion of a bioluminescent glow.
It grows on stony surfaces, in complete darkness, near cave waters, from where it gets its nutrition.
The fruiting body is annual, 4 to 12 centimeters long and cantilever-shaped. It has a tough, juicy, elastic texture when fresh and a hard brittle texture when dry; slightly sour. The older the mushroom, the blacker and harder it becomes.
Usage: Glass mushrooms are harvested in bunches, washed from their covers and left to dry for 2-3 days. After most of the moisture has been absorbed into the tissue, the mushroom is separated into independent segments and pre-cooked over low heat for an hour, periodically draining the old liquid and pouring in new. Then they are packaged and sold ready-made.Sometimes they may be pickled or salted.
Glass mushrooms can be added to both cold dishes and hot dishes. They are best in soups and salads.
It is rich in dietary fiber, low in calories and with regular consumption strengthens the immune system.
