Barchan root

Location: Sand City and its outskirts, wastelands.

Description: Barchan is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows mainly in fields or oases. It has an erect rounded above ground stem, opposite-palmate leaves on the petiole, a spike-shaped inflorescence, a sac (box-shaped) fruit and fibrous roots.
The rhizome is straight, pointed, with spines, the color of gray silk. Often confused with the root of Barchan.

Usage: The root of Barchan is ground, cut into slices or used entirely in a dish, having previously been cleaned of thorns and peel.
Residents of the Sandy City are used to eating it directly in stewed/ boiled chunks, adding it to pearl soup or other dishes.
For residents of other cities, the strong spicy taste of the rhizome is unusual, so they prefer to add it during the cooking of soup only for a while.
If the rhizome is old, it is pre-soaked in warm water, also added to soup, after that remains are fed to livestock. The old Barchan roots does not have a strong taste, so it is suitable for those who want to feel only light notes of spice.
Often, the root can be dried and ground to a powder consistency, seasoning meat or vegetables, sometimes pastries or drinks.
The concentrated infusion of the Barchan rhizome helps to keep the body of the plumii in good shape, alleviate the symptoms of diseases, and have a relaxing and anti-inflammatory effect.
